Alice Alvey President, Master CMB – Consultant, Instructor
Alice began processing loans in 1982, became an originator and then moved to underwriting and found her niche in operations. She was hired by a national wholesale and retail bank in 1989 as part of a small team to begin a TPO origination division and eventually became Senior Vice President of Operations. In this role Alice was responsible for all operations including underwriting, funding, post closing, servicing and quality control. She served as the corporate compliance officer, working directly with HUD, FDIC, FRB, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac on all audits while the bank grew to close 3 billion in residential loans.
In January 1996, Alice partnered with Jan Wetzel of Wetzel Trott to start Mortgage U, Inc. MU has created countless customized training programs for classroom and internet learning from application through loan delivery and all things compliance and FHA. MU is an education partner with Campus MBA delivering their FHA programs including training for FHA on FHA single family and hospital products. In addition to education she has developed several products and services including automated compliance Health Checklists, appraiser credential management and customized procedure manuals for lenders, banks and credit unions across the country seeking to build compliant and efficient operations.
Alice is a Master Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB), designated by the Mortgage Bankers Association of America. Alice currently serves on the state board of the Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association as the education consultant and the advisory board for Habitat For Humanity Michigan Fund. She served on Fannie Mae’s Risk Management Advisory Counsel and as an instructor for Fannie Mae’s Housing Finance Institute; In 2000 she received the Vic Miller Outstanding Mortgage Banker award from the Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association. In 2009 she received the James T. Barnes award for significant contributions and outstanding dedication throughout the years to the mortgage banking industry.

Jan Wetzel, Director
Jan Wetzel’s extensive underwriting and management background started in 1978 and put her on course to start one of the country’s leading Quality Control firms. In 1998 she designed and wrote the “QuiC” software program to manage the entire closed loan review process from document tracking through management reporting. Jan has molded the information from over 200,000 loan reviews into QuiC to create an extensive fraud database that provides trend analysis reporting and unparalleled protection for her clients. Jan also created a Servicing Quality Control division within Wetzel Trott. Her specialized services cover audits on everything from investor accounting, escrow analysis, loss mitigation, foreclosure, FHA and VA requirements. Jan’s team covers over five states for some of the countries largest servicers. Jan is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, and received her Bachelors Degree in Communication in 1978. She has served on the board of directors and development committee for COTS (The Coalition for Temporary Shelter)in Detroit. Jan is currently the President of the Southeast Chapter of the Michigan Mortgage Lenders; participates in the FNMA Risk Management Advisory Council and is the 1997 recipient of the MMLA James T. Barnes Award for her exemplary contributions to the mortgage industry.

Amy Hinkle – Senior Instructor, Author
Upon graduating from Siena Heights University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and a Minor in Business Administration, Amy felt very prepared to enter the mortgage lending industry. Her first experiences were as a Funder and later as a Processor for the Government Lending Department of Source One Mortgage Corporation (which later became CitiMortgage). Soon after, she earned a position as a Junior Underwriter for Washington Mutual Bank where she performed risk reviews on “Approve/Eligible” loans and completed several pre-closing tasks in collaboration with the closing department. Later, as an underwriter at InterFirst Wholesale Mortgage (which later became CitiMortgage), she was proud to earn her Direct Endorsement signature authority to provide decisions on FHA loans. A promotion followed to a Senior Underwriting role where she was also responsible for educating her fellow underwriting team on HUD guideline changes and the eligibility rules for Conventional loans. Amy enjoyed the training aspect of her job so much she was hired as an instructor for CitiMortgage. She helped train the operations staff in the Ann Arbor location in an intense eight month program for navigating through the CitiMortgage loan origination software. While an instructor there, Amy received accolades for enthusiasm and exceptional team work from the management staff. In 2008, Amy was hired as an Instructor and Author at Mortgage U. She has drafted comprehensive underwriting guidelines for a national lender and has created an extensive income and asset training course for another one of Mortgage U’s longstanding clients. She has monitored and edited the FHA Fundamentals live online course, the VA Fundamentals live online course, and the Closing, Post Closing and Insuring FHA Loans live online course. She is also a contributing author for the Practical Guide to FHA Lending and the Practical Guide to VA Lending, both of which are published online. Amy has also been one of the instructors for the intense 20 Hour SAFE Act Comprehensive Mortgage Loan Originator education and assisted in the creation of many of Mortgage U’s federal and state origination test preparation tools. In addition, Amy serves as a member of the Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association. Amy takes great pride in providing a captivating and challenging learning environment for each of her students. She truly enjoys meeting and assisting students in any of the Mortgage U courses, whether they have many years of experience or if that student has only just begun their work in the industry.

Lisa Koon-Bloomburg – State Licensing Specialist, Course Development
Lisa began her 11-year career at a nationally known title insurance company where she conducted closings for both conventional and government loans. Lisa went on to be the funder for a wholesale lender quickly moving up to Assistant Vice President of Wholesale Funding and was responsible for training her staff on reviewing title insurance, surveys, appraisals, closing documents and funding advice. Through hard work and dedication, Lisa was promoted to Assistant Vice President in charge of Wholesale Operations. During this time, Lisa was also responsible with working alongside with the product development division and researching investor requirements for new loan products.
